Abstract

Bangladesh is a land of scenic beauty, diverse ethnicity, unique cuisine, rich legacy, and historical relics and opens a hundred doors to welcome, but none for departure. The country has some rare experiences to offer, enjoying the wonders at the Sundarbans, the biggest mangrove forest globally, or taking a stroll along the world’s largest unbroken beach in Cox’s Bazar. The tourism industry of Bangladesh can promote national level development in the long-run. However, Bangladesh’s tourism industry fails to realise the anticipated benefits despite these immense prospects. This introductory chapter provides a snapshot of Bangladesh tourism’s overall discussion within the scope of economic importance, prevailing barriers, public-private partnerships, globalisation, and regional integration using qualitative and quantitative approaches for policy analysis.
