Abstract

Tourism entrepreneurs are classified as lifestyle entrepreneurs because they concentrate more on their quality of life while living in their desired destination. However, other studies classify tourism entrepreneurs as growth-oriented. New generations are changing their mindsets from lifestyle entrepreneurs to growth-oriented entrepreneurs. Generation Z (or Gen Z for short) (born between 1996 and 2010), has recently started to work and become a part of the workforce. The characteristics of Gen Z are different than other generations before them. Gen Z entrepreneurs are not locked into a traditional corporate mindset. This generation has technological knowledge. They are risk-takers with strong leadership abilities. Many Gen Z may choose to follow the entrepreneurship path compared to Generation Y. Gen Z entrepreneurs may prefer to be an entrepreneur or an intrapreneur in the tourism industry, but which entrepreneurship path will be the best option for them? This chapter examines entrepreneurship paths for Gen Z across four sections. The first part of the chapter will give information about tourism entrepreneurship. The second part will discuss the role of a person as an entrepreneur and as an intrapreneur within the tourism industry concept. The third part will examine details about Gen Z’s characteristics, lifestyle and business choices. The final part will examine the question of ‘Will Gen Z prefer to be an entrepreneur or an intrapreneur in the tourism industry?’
