Abstract

This chapter contributes to research on family firm internationalization from a process perspective. It adopts networking as the primary lens in order to explain how a family-controlled new venture both co-founded by a family member and a non-family member was able to internationalize from its home market in Colombia in order to participate in the global, mobile video game industry. The study applied a longitudinal research design capturing how networking unfolded within a single case setting making use of methods for the collection and analysis of qualitative process data. The findings are presented in a narrative and contribute a nuanced perspective to the networking of internationalizing family firms by revealing from a micro-perspective the networking behaviour of both the family member entrepreneur and the non-family member entrepreneur. The chapter shows how the networking of both types of entrepreneurs plays out over time along the internationalization path of the firm, how they interact, and how they create the necessary resources that enable and maintain internationalization.
