Abstract

Indigenous entrepreneurship represents a significant opportunity for Indigenous peoples to build vibrant Indigenous-led economies that support sustainable economic development and well-being. The case studies explore Indigenous entrepreneurship and hybrid venture creation and underlying global trends that have influenced the design, structure and mission of Manitobah Mukluks, Yaru Water and Hupacasath First Nation Upnit Power Corporation. The chapter provides insights into how Indigenous entrepreneurship promotes social, environmental and economic value creation by and for the benefit of Indigenous peoples and asserts that Indigenous ventures are developed with explicit goals to benefit the community, instigate social change and protect the environment that is contingent on the particular culture, traditions and spirituality of the Indigenous peoples connected to the land and its resources.
