Etiquette: Do’s and Don’ts

Abstract

It is a challenge to describe Russian business etiquette as it is rapidly developing and continues to be influenced by traditional, Soviet and Western practices. A major factor that influences business etiquette is the location. Business partners in rural areas tend to be more traditional than those who reside in the metropolitan environments of Moscow or St. Petersburg. Etiquette also differs depending on whom one deals with. The Russian business mentality can be very diverse and ranges from Western-influenced “new-style entrepreneur” to “old-school soviet bureaucrat.”
