Abstract

Zusammenfassung Die wirtschaftliche Stimmung in Europa war Anfang 2010 sehr nervös, zerbrechlich und turbulent. Griechenland befand sich in freiem Fall aufgrund seiner vergangenen fiskalischen Verantwortungslosigkeit und seines Statistikbetrugs, die allmählich ins öffentliche Bewusstsein gedrungen waren. Die finanzielle Stabilität der gesamten Eurozone war bald in Gefahr, da das griechische Buschfeuer drohte, sich in einen europäischen Waldbrand zu verwandeln, mit schädlichen Auswirkungen auf den beginnenden Aufschwung – und es gab weder eine bestehende Feuerwehr noch einen Feuerlöscher. Noch schlimmer war, dass wir gerade die schwerste globale Finanzkrise seit den 1930er-Jahren erlebt hatten, die Wachstum und Beschäftigung schwer beschädigt und zu einem Anstieg der Haushaltsdefizite und der Staatsverschuldung geführt hatte. Fast alle europäischen Volkswirtschaften waren verwundbar.
