Abstract

Zusammenfassung Während die Eurozone brannte, machten die baltischen Staaten weiter und brachten ihre Volkswirtschaften immer wieder auf den Wachstumspfad zurück. Alle drei, Estland, Lettland und Litauen, wurden 2011–2015 Mitglieder der Eurozone; Estland 2011, Lettland 2014 und Litauen 2015. Da während der Krise weder Grexit noch andere Austritte aus der Eurozone stattfanden – anders als von vielen Kassandras vorhergesagt –, wuchs die Mitgliedschaft der Eurozone tatsächlich von 16 auf 19 Mitglieder. Die vergangenen drei Jahrzehnte im Baltikum sind eine inspirierende Ära der Freiheit und des Fortschritts. Ihre EU-Mitgliedschaft war ein wichtiger Baustein für ihre erfolgreiche demokratische und wirtschaftliche Transformation.
