Abstract

Zusammenfassung „Basta!“ – „Sie brauchen keine Kopfhörer“, rief Elisa Ferreira, eine sozialdemokratische Europaabgeordnete aus Portugal. „Sie müssen nur ein einziges Wort auswendig lernen: Basta! Das ist genug!“ Die öffentliche Debatte über die Finanzpolitik während der Krise war ein erbitterter Kampf zwischen den „Austerianern“ und den „Spendanigans“. Ersterer bezieht sich auf diejenigen, die glauben, dass fiskalische Nachhaltigkeit – oder „Sparsamkeit“ – der Weg zu einer gesunden Wirtschaft ist. Letzteres bezieht sich auf diejenigen, die glauben, dass Defizitausgaben ohne Schuldensorgen zur Stimulierung des Wachstums eingesetzt werden sollten. Aber es gab keinen Königsweg. Außerdem verfehlt es den Sinn, sich nur auf die Fiskalpolitik zu konzentrieren, denn in Wirklichkeit waren die finanzielle Sanierung und die Fortführung von Strukturreformen gleichermaßen wichtig, um das Wachstum anzukurbeln.
