Abstract

Zusammenfassung Das Zeichen der Zeit: „Ich bin heute nicht mehr so beunruhigt wie im vergangenen Jahr“, sagte Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel am 8. Januar 2013 auf einer Konferenz in Berlin. Anfang 2013 habe ich in meinen Reden betont, dass es für Stabilität und Wachstum entscheidend ist, den Reformkurs beizubehalten. Bis Anfang Mai 2013 war der Diskurs des realistischen Optimismus über den Zustand der europäischen Wirtschaft richtig etabliert und auf den Märkten zur Kenntnis genommen worden. Das entschlossene Handeln der EZB, im Juni 2014 zu negativen Leitzinsen und 2015 zu einer quantitativen Lockerung überzugehen, war ein conditio sine qua non, um die Gefahr einer Deflation einzudämmen. Angesichts der wirtschaftlichen Erholung und der Schaffung von Arbeitsplätzen in den letzten Jahren hat sich der Pragmatismus der EZB somit bestätigt.
