Abstract

This chapter explores the situation ofWorker older older workersOlder workers in SwitzerlandSwitzerland and reflects on the gender implicationsGender implications ofPolicy/ies extending working life extending working lifeWorking life policiesExtending/ed working life policies and practices. Firstly, we describe the current employment patternsEmployment patterns ofWorker older older workersOlder workers in the SwissSwiss context, paying particular attention to gender differencesGender differences over the life-course. In a second section, we present the three-pillarPillars SwissSwiss pension system, before going on to analyse the nature and the origins of the gender pensionGender pension gap gapGap pension . In a final section, we summarize the most important extended working lifeWorking life policy initiatives that have taken place in recent years and discuss the mismatch between these reforms and the conservative gender regime that has influenced the life-course of current generations ofWorker older older workersOlder workers .
