Abstract

During the last three decades ChileChile has experienced an unprecedented demographic transition due to increased life expectancy and decreased childbirth. This is expected to cause important challenges to economic, healthHealth and cultural dimensions among older peopleOlder people in ChileChile . Furthermore, this is a developing country characterised by a liberal labour market andPolicy/ies pension pension policiesPension policy and by a male breadwinner culture-locating women in careCaring, care, caregiving and domestic tasks at the expense of labour market participationLabour market participation . This means that gender plays a key role in the challenges associated with anPopulation ageing ageing populationAgeing population . We discuss public policiesPolicy/ies public and recent academic research on the economic, healthHealth , and cultural dimensions of ageing in ChileChile .
