Abstract

In this chapter, the diagnostic stage of the OD (organizational development) process is examined in detail. It is the second step in the OD process. Diagnosis is examined to understand the organization’s functioning with a view to develop and implement appropriate planned interventions. More specifically, in this chapter, the importance of diagnosis in the OD process is first assessed. Diagnostic perspectives are then explored and the importance and usefulness of diagnostic models in the diagnostic phase of OD are evaluated. Diagnostic models are presented and described as guiding frameworks for the diagnostic process within organizational systems. Finally, multi-level organizational diagnostic models are recommended within the diagnostic stage of the OD process.
