Abstract

Using the mathematical properties of fuzzy relationsFuzzy relations, the similaritySimilarity between the state vectors of the reconstructed phase spacePhase-space of a time seriesTime series can be naturally determined to establish aFuzzy recurrence plots fuzzy recurrence plotRecurrence plots. As a departure from the construction of a binary recurrence plotRecurrence plots, a fuzzy recurrence plotRecurrence plots is a square grayscale imageGrayscale images whose intensity values are expressed with the complements of the fuzzy membershipFuzzy membership grades. Another advantage of fuzzy recurrence plotsRecurrence plots is that they are richer in textureTexture and can provide better visualizationVisualization than binary recurrence plots. FuzzyCross recurrence plots cross recurrence plotsRecurrence plots and fuzzyFuzzy joint recurrence plots joint recurrence plotsJoint recurrence plots are also presented in this chapter.
