Abstract

Zusammenfassung Vom frühen 18. Jahrhundert an wurde häufig die Ansicht vertreten, daß die Psychologie eine „allgemeine Wissenschaft des Geistes“ sei (W. Wundt, ‚Logik‘, I, S. 1) und daher auch die Grundlage aller Philosophie, Logik und Mathematik wäre. Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde diese Auffassung sogar von vielen Mathematikern übernommen. Es wurde üblich, in den einleitenden Kapiteln der Lehrbücher die mathematischen Grundbegriffe in der Terminologie der Psychologie einzuführen. Man schrieb der Seele, dem Geist und der Vor-stellungskraft die Fähigkeit der Erzeugung der mathematischen Gegenstände zu und glaubte, die Gesetzmäßigkeiten der Logik, der Arithmetik, der Geometrie etc. auf psychische Gesetzmäßigkeiten zurückführen zu können.
