Abstract

This chapter discusses how Nordic consumers’ nature experiences are orchestrated through an interplay of Nordic ideologies of nature as well as Nordic governmental apparatuses. On the one hand, Nordic everyman’s rights and nature ideologies bring freedom for Nordic consumers to enter and experience nature equally. On the other hand, the Nordic states set strict governmental rules promoting ideologies that restrict nature experiences. The chapter studies Nordic sailors’ nature experiences by focusing on both sailing as an experience as well as sailboat ownership and related maintenance.
