Abstract

The elucidation of the underlying mechanisms of immunological reactions will depend for a large part on the identification and isolation of the various lymphoid cell subsets that participate in these reactions. One approach to this problem, which has recently received extensive development, involves the detection of differentiation antigens expressed at the surface of lymphocytes. Exquisite resolution of the murine lymphocyte population into functionally distinct component subpopulations has thus been achieved, particularly in the case of the thymus-dependent cell pool (Cantor and Boyse, 1977; McKenzie and Potter, 1979).
