Abstract

To round off things we shall now give a short analysis of the role of mathematics in society. It starts with biographies of three persons or rather collectives A, B, and C, representing, in order, the public, the users of mathematics, and the professional mathematicians. In a section about psychology A meets C and C has a crisis. Then we are told how C fared when he wanted to reform the teaching of mathematics. The chapter ends with a morality.
