Some distribution-independent (or ‘distribution-free’ or ‘non-parametric’) tests

Abstract

The significance tests of Chapter 6 are applicable only if the observations come from distributions not far from normal. We now give tests which, in general, are independent of the type of distribution, and for this reason are sometimes called ‘distribution-free’ or ‘non-parametric’ tests. They are based on arranging the observations in order or on ranking them in some way.
