Abstract

IF YOU PLAY a musical instrument and have some knowledge of mathematics, you probably know that mathematics and music have much in common. The connection between these two seemingly unrelated subjects may appear in the study of harmony or counterpoint, or in the laws of vibrating strings and physical resonance. Although musicians use musical laws without analyzing them too deeply, a mathematical glance at musical structure may be quite illuminating.
