Stochastic Metrics

Abstract

The history of the theory of stochastic metric spaces begins with A. Špaček’s work on random metric spaces during the period of 1956 — 1959 (cf. [105, 106]). A first comment on Špaček’s ideas goes back to K. Menger, B. Schweizer and A, Sklar 1959 (cf. [80]). Subsequently, in the sixties and seventies of the last century stochastic metric spaces and their relations to probabilistic metric spaces (cf. [96]) have been investigated by various authors. In this context we would like to give prominence to J.B. Brown, A.N. Šerstnev, H. Sherwood (cf. [13, 99, 100, 101]).
