Extreme Value Distributions for Linear and Non-Linear Systems and Applications to Marine Structures

Abstract

Prediction of extreme wave loads acting on a marine structure is an essential step in its design. The structure may respond linearly or non-linearly to extreme wave conditions depending on its flexibility and type. This paper presents extreme value distributions that can be used for linear systems such as tankers and non-linear systems such as jack up platforms. The results of application to these structures are compared and discussed.
