Design Principles for Chlorine Membrane Cells

Abstract

Perflourinated cation exchanger membranes permit realization of design principles impracticable until recent years. Beside ion exchange, all new possibilities are based on occurrence of two strictly divided mass flows through the cell. Available designs include membrane gap and solid polymer electrolysis, in situ chemical conversions, use of gas diffusion electrodes, and processing cell cascades with co and countercurrent flows.(2,3,4).
