Abstract

The theories of ordinary and partial differential equations are fruitful sources of integral equations. In the quest for the representation formula for the solution of a linear differential equation in such a manner so as to include the boundary condition or initial conditions explicitly, one is always led to an integral equation. Once a boundary value or an initial value problem has been formulated in terms of an integral equation, it becomes possible to solve this problem easily. In this chapter, we consider only ordinary differential equations. The next chapter is devoted to partial differential equations.
