A Numerical Scheme for Determining Diffraction Coefficients in Anisotropic Materials

Abstract

Ultrasonic inspection is a widely used method for determining the existence of defects in components. Accurate sizing of any crack-like defects relies on elastic waves diffracted from the edge of the defect. The quantity of physical interest is the diffraction coefficient, which relates the vector amplitude of a ray incident on a crack edge to the amplitudes of the diffracted rays. This chapter is concerned with determining diffraction coefficients in anisotropic materials.
