Abstract

This chapter shows how state and local government can reduce illegal border crossing and entry of criminals. On the southern border, community policing can combat trans-border crime and deter illegal border crossing. On the northern border, states can help make cross-border traffic both more rapid and secure. Borderland states ought to promote public–private partnerships to build more resilient and higher capacity infrastructure that will enhance efficient border crossing, trade, and security.
