Abstract

South Dakota developed a statewide radio system that allows its more than 14,000 public safety officials (local, state, federal, and tribal) to communicate with each other. The digital, trunked system permits voice and data transmission in a cost-effective manner. The trunked feature ensures efficiency because the computer searches to find the first available channel rather than dedicating a particular channel to a particular user.
