Abstract

A survey of the recent results concerning the Boltzmann equation for granular materials is given. In particular the model proposed by Bobylev et al. for Maxwell grains is discussed with particular attention to the possibility of obtaining closed form solutions. The fact that the kinetic equation for grains has different a priori estimates with respect to those for gas molecules and its consequences for existence proofs is also presented.
