Abstract

Conclution During the period of the development of the PhD work various alternative metaphors of systems have aided the sensemaking process. They have generated new insights into a complex situation helping the author to clarify her thinking. The work has been focused through their use. The author believes that continued conscious attention to “the largely unexamined assumptions” (Atkinson and Checkland,1988) about systems in structuring and carrying out her work will facilitate understanding of an important current social phenomenon; interorganisational health and social service groups.
