Abstract

Seismic risk assessment tools provide reliable information and near-real-time ground-motion and damage estimates in the aftermath of an earthquake. The aim of this chapter is to provide a review of the state-of-the-art (SOTA) seismic risk assessment tools at a community (macroscopic) and individual affected building (microscopic) level. The first part describes earthquake hazard analysis and seismic resilience concepts with an inventory of SOTA seismic risk assessment frameworks. The second part analyzes the application of some of these frameworks at a community and building level. This chapter closes with a discussion of current systems and provides recommendations for informed actions to be taken by decision-makers following an earthquake.
