Abstract

This conclusion recognizes the contributions of this book. In particular, the definitions of risk pooling and the ten identified methods of risk pooling are summarized. The benefits, characteristics, and explanation of risk pooling are recalled. Risk pooling is placed in the supply and value chain. The development of the Risk Pooling Decision Support Tool and its application to the large German paper wholesale company are recapitulated. We generalize our findings from this case study and stress that several risk-pooling methods can be combined fruitfully. Furthermore, centralized ordering can reduce average cycle inventory for a company that pursues a stock-to-demand order policy, if it has to observe minimum order and saltus quantities. The case study demonstrates the effective application of risk pooling in a wholesale company. Our survey reviews the status of its recognition and utilization in German manufacturing and trading companies. Finally, we suggest avenues for further research and invite academics and managers to seize the potentials of risk pooling.
