Abstract

Cognitive innovation consists of an endless cycle of exploration, exploitation and explanation; an exploratory process of probing boundaries, selecting which of the countless ideas to exploit and develop further, synthesizing the resulting new insights into explanations of how things are, generating new challenges and questions (Gummerum and Denham, Europe’s J Psychol 10:586–588, 2014). The purpose of this chapter is to clarify the cognitive innovation of social entrepreneurs for creating shared value in urban agriculture in Japan and China through qualitative analysis based on the results of selected case studies in Chap. 6 .
