The Path of Belarusian Entrepreneurship to a Socially Oriented Market Economy

Abstract

The case of Belarus allows reviewing the process of entrepreneurship evolution from zero in the twentieth century and trace the efficiency of various entrepreneurship policies, keeping in mind the background of a globalised economy. Employing the framework of context study methodology, we examine the changes in the dynamics of entrepreneurship in Belarus from the context of historical, institutional, spatial and social contexts. The cases of four industries, trade, agriculture, manufacturing and IT, allow demonstrating the differences in the attitude of the state towards private entrepreneurship and the resulting changes in entrepreneurship performance.
