Abstract

Karasev makes the survey and analysis of the main approaches to the problem of structure and agency in the contemporary sociology of revolutions and social movements. The problem of structure and agency has been in some respects central to the agenda of contemporary sociology of revolution and social movements. Karasev shows that the problem of structure and agency and the contemporary sociology of revolutions and social movements are very closely interrelated; leading theoretical attempts to solve this problem have produced a great impact on recent theories of revolution and social movements. However, the more complex the theoretical solution, the less likely that it will be taken into account in further empirical research; interactions between theorists of structure/agency and theorists of revolutions/social movements is thus necessary for the latter’s advance.
