Abstract

Entrepreneurial activity is a driver of innovation and is crucial for the competitiveness of economies on both a global and local scale. Entrepreneurs, by exploring new markets and introducing innovations, facilitate the emergence of nascent industries and stimulate competitiveness and productivity in traditional sectors. This dynamic of innovation fosters social cohesion and economic inclusion, contributing to the reduction of social inequalities and improving the quality of life for populations. In contexts of heightened economic vulnerability, entrepreneurship can represent a valuable self-employment alternative and foster local development. Following the discussion of some key contributions of entrepreneurship to economic development, the chapter focuses on a specific aspect of entrepreneurship which, due to its social mission, centres its activity on the social problems it aims to address.
