Phase I—Pilot Study

Abstract

From the literature review above it can be concluded that the field of eHealth is yet missing a quantitative empirical study that verifies the specific antecedents leading to user resistance of eHealth technologies. Given the complexity of many national eHealth implementation programs, as in the case of the German ‘eGK’ technology, the following section describes a pilot study conducted to verify resistance-related antecedents previously identified in other information systems studies in the context of eHealth. This section therefore runs through the analysis of an existing resistance model in order to examine the applicability of current user resistance theory to the context of the German ‘eGK’ technology. For this purpose, the ‘Status Quo Bias Model’ developed by Kim and Kankanhalli (MIS Quart 33(3):567–582, 2009) is used and the effects of the antecedents therein defined are measured. Overall, this section aims at answering the first of the two research questions initially posited.
