Abstract

In this chapter we looked at how the construction industry is undergoing a major digital transformation. The industry is moving from paper traditional methods such as blueprints and manual processes toward more connected modern methods. We looked at how technologies like BIM, IoT, and AI are reshaping everything from how buildings are designed, built to how they’re managed. While digital tools offer faster, more efficient, and more viable solutions, not everyone is keeping pace, and that gap poses real challenges. We also talked about smart buildings and the tech they use, like smart meters and energy-saving systems but also bringing up these questions about privacy and cybersecurity. Altogether, this chapter established the groundwork for understanding why digital innovation matters, and why securing it is just as important as adopting it.
