Business Intelligence Culture

Abstract

This chapter mostly draws on materials previously published in papers in journals Issues in Informing Science and Information Technology (Skyrius et al., Issue Inform Sci Informat Technol, 13: 171–186, 2016), and Information Research (Skyrius, Nemitko, & Taločka, Informat Res, 23: 4, 2018). The wide set of human factors influencing business intelligence (BI) adoption tends to define features of what may be called BI culture, a concept covering human and managerial issues that emerge in BI implementation. The goal of this chapter is to point out the key features of BI culture, and examine their relations to the perceived level of this culture. The elements of BI culture are: sharing of information and insights; record of lessons learned; intelligence information integration; intelligence community; and supportive IT infrastructure. The chapter presents the results of empirical research, directed at evaluation of perceived level of BI culture and its relation to different activities and their components.
