Abstract
One Health is an integrated approach that aims to develop comprehensive solutions to complex health problems. Specifically, it recognizes that the health of humans, animals, plants, and the environment are intricately connected and that effective solutions require the participation of multi-sectoral and community stakeholders. The Circular Bioeconomy is an economical approach that integrates the principles of a circular economy with the utilization of biological resources to achieve sustainability. It focuses on producing goods, energy, and services using renewable biological resources while minimizing waste, reducing environmental impact, and maintaining the regenerative capacity of natural systems. These two approaches have several common goals: resource efficiency, biodiversity preservation, sustainable agriculture, and interdisciplinary research. Here, we discuss how healthy environments, microbes, plants, animals, and humans are all integral parts of a successfully and sustainably implemented Circular Bioeconomy. Additionally, we discuss threats to health including climate change, urbanization and land use, and environmental contaminants as well as ways to mitigate these threats through technological advancements, sustainable practices, and both bottom-up (community-centric) and top-down (policy-centric) approaches. Finally, we discuss the necessity of training the workforce in the One Health approach to create system thinkers capable of mitigating health threats and removing barriers to functioning Circular Bioeconomies.
