Unequal yet Successful: Decoding the Invisible Rules Behind Commercial Transactions

Abstract

This chapter uses case studies to reveal the invisible rules and underlying logic of unequal exchanges in commercial transactions. For example, a trade of fast food for vegetables illustrates that transaction prices do not always follow the principle of equal exchange; however, by reducing transaction costs and saving intermediate steps, stable transactions can still occur. The chapter further analyzes how the proportion of transaction costs affects price fluctuations, emphasizing how high transaction cost items can result in larger price variations and lead to stable but unequal transactions. The chapter concludes by stressing the importance of understanding transaction ranges and value perception in commercial decision-making.
