Abstract

Since the launch of TA-Q-BIN service in 1976, Yamato Transport has been enjoying a steady rate of growth, despite 20 years of economic stagnation in Japan. What is the true secret of Yamato’s success? GEMBA, a word frequently heard from employees at all levels in Yamato, appears to be the source of innovation that drives Yamato’s competitive advantage over its competitors. This chapter reveals the secrete behind Yamato’s success through a few cases of innovation.
