Abstract

The business environment is marked with a high degree of competition and volatility, more than ever before. The sources of competition extend to beyond the conventional domestic competitors to the ones from around the world, and also technology-led disruptions. To compete effectively, today's organization needs to be efficient, regardless of scale, and yet be flexible to rapidly respond to changing market needs. Lean took birth and thrived in exactly the kind of constrained environment, as most organizations find themselves these days. Lean teaches organizations to look at reality squarely in the face, and dynamically and quickly change its posture to best meet the emerging reality.
