Abstract

Strategic sourcing represents a shift in mindset that puts sourcing in the context of how procurement impacts the entire organization—in marketing, sales, research and development and finance. This requires an organization to realign its infrastructure to support strategic sourcing. The internal considerations are organizational structure, the skills needed by staff and management and the strategic sourcing processes. The external factors are supplier management and partnership relationships. Finally, to fully realize the benefits from strategic sourcing from day-to-day operations on up, a company must have the necessary technology to underpin and enable the necessary changes.
