Abstract

This chapter paraphrases some interesting conversations with business leaders. The triggers for geographic dispersion could vary from one organization to the other. While some of the underlying objectives could be growth and business efficiencies, the approach and issues could be vastly different based on whether it is organic or inorganic growth and whether the focus is on internal efficiencies or external partnerships and linkages. Three organizations have been carefully chosen for the conversations. The organizations represent diverse industries, business models, countries of origin, varied geographic presence and different manifestations of VOs. Their leaders give very interesting accounts of their stories. The chapter examines what, if any, are the underlying commonalities and issues across these organizations. This paves the way to formulate generic models and approaches in later chapters.
