Abstract

The operation and control characteristics of some control policies from basic to hybrid ones are described in this chapter. Basic control policies include Kanban, CONWIP, and Base-stock. The simplest is the CONWIP, which has only a single control parameter for the entire production line, whereas Kanban and Base-stock controls require one control parameter for each production stage. Hybrid control policies include Kanban-CONWIP, Generalized Kanban, and Extended Kanban. Among the hybrid controls, we only describe the simplest one, the CONWIP-Kanban, which requires one control parameter for each production stage and one additional parameter for the entire production line.
