Abstract

If you ask ten data managers what Data Governance actually is or how you define Data Governance, you will usually get ten different answers. This is because every Data Governance implementation, like every company, is unique. This makes it all the more important to create a common basis at the beginning, from which you can then derive the right decisions and course settings for customized Data Governance in your company at a later stage. To this end, we start with a simple definition and then, as the complexity increases, we introduce all aspects and fields of action of Data Governance step by step in an understandable and practical manner. Experience has shown that many people find the topic of Data Governance very abstract and difficult to grasp at first. The aim of this chapter is to help you to transform this abstract vagueness of Data Governance as a concept into your own clear understanding of the practical processes and activities behind the term Data Governance.
