Abstract

This chapter guides you through the source function within supply chain management and is split into three main sections. First, it gives a definition of source and the pre- and post-order steps in the purchasing process. Second, it considers strategic sourcing initiatives with an overview of category sourcing management and supplier relationship management. Third, it highlights sourcing management tools with a focus on negotiation and cost management. This chapter concludes with a case study of best practice in negotiation, focusing on a different perspective of the deal. Having read this chapter you will be able to: Explain sourcing and the purchasing process steps Clarify strategic sourcing initiatives Explore key management tools used in sourcing
