Abstract

What the Academy of Management (AOM) calls Organization Development and Change (ODC) is known by several names, including most commonly, and in this book, Organization Development (OD), and is in a stage of development. As both an academic degree topic (one may earn formal qualifications of baccalaureate, master, and doctoral degrees) and a practice field (many consultants provide services under the OD or similar rubric), the professional discipline is not yet mature. As a metaphor to what Erikson (1963) termed the adolescent stage in personality and social development, OD seems to be operating between childhood and adult and engaged in efforts to resolve conflicts of its identity and role within the HRM space.
