Abstract

Enterprise information technology (IT), enterprise software, and IT infrastructure are increasingly contributing to competitive advantage—and for some, disadvantage. In addition to high-tech technologies, cloud applications, and mobile apps, this particularly affects the enterprise core with its classic enterprise software components. For some years now, the System Analysis and Program Development (SAP) has been using the term digital core, which I find very appropriate for the entire on-premise software world. The image of the core makes sense insofar as the company as a business organism has certain core processes, and these have not changed significantly despite the digital transformation. Companies have to prepare balance sheets, write invoices, make purchases, process sales, make offers, and much more. These processes affect the core of the company.
