Abstract

This chapter approaches issues pertaining to international trade, the location of economic activities, the propagation of knowledge and the diffusion of ideas, and the international effort in dealing with environmental externalities. These topics are addressed through simple economic models, most of them of a dynamic nature and involving some sort of strategic interaction among the involved players. A common denominator regarding all the models approached in the chapter is the relevant role assigned to geographical space, to the spatial distribution of economic activities, and to the processes through which goods, ideas and knowledge spread across geographical locations.
