The Role of Control Towers in Improving Supply Chain Agility

Abstract

The evolution of supply chains has been profoundly shaped by technological advancements, shifting consumer expectations, and global disruptions such as the COVID-19 pandemic. These factors have driven a transition toward digital, customer-centric supply chain management, where Supply Chain Control Tower (SCCT) technology plays a pivotal role. Implementing new technologies, including control tower solutions, is crucial to integrating agility, responsiveness, visibility, and transparency into the supply chain structure. This chapter aims to introduce the concept of SCCT in the context of a digital, customer-centric supply chain. This will be achieved by reviewing theoretical foundations and illustrating the functionality of control towers through case studies of the Electrolux and Procter & Gamble supply chains. The research methodology includes a case study analysis supported by a survey study conducted among 228 supply chains, incorporating elements of qualitative analysis.
